The Mark of the Artist – Monoprints

Published June 3, 2021

Using monoprints, a basic printmaking technique in which an image can only be printed once (as opposed to typical printmaking techniques, which provide multiple copies), students developed their expressive skills by practicing “mark-making” using color and line to produce work that was unique to them.

Following step-by-step instructions, they began by selecting a palette of colors to cover the printing plate and then drawing into the paint in a reductive technique (i.e., removing some of the paint with various drawing tools) before finally printing the image onto paper.
