“The Challenge of Space”

“The Challenge of Space” on the exterior of Tallahassee’s Challenger Learning Center was created by Gregory M. Gómez with funds from Florida’s Art in State Buildings Program. The installation consists of over 400 cast bronze elements designed to reflect the Earth’s land masses, rocket launch trajectories, and equations for calculating escape velocities and geosynchronous orbits. Although the Challenger Center’s camps have had to go online this summer, students are enjoying a range of fun learning opportunities, including courses on robotics, virtual coding, and using Minecraft to design a roller coaster!
