Celebrating Merce Cunningham’s Centennial

Published April 3, 2019

From April 13 through 27, the FSU College of Music, College of Fine Arts, Museum of Fine Arts, and Student Life Cinema will host a series of evemts as part of a global celebration of the life and work of Merce Cunningham, one of the greatest American dance artists.

MoFA is excited to host two events focusing on Cunningham’s reach across disciplines. On April 13 from 6pm-8:02pm, MoFA will be transformed into “Musicircus Florida”. Inspired by Cunningham’s lifelong creative partner John Cage, over 100 performers will utilize music, dance, and theatre to create an immersive happening in the Museum. And on April 18 at 6pm, MoFA will host a long table conversation focusing on the legacy of Cunningham’s collaborations with Cage and Robert Rauschenberg. Featuring faculty from across the Colleges of Fine Arts and Music, this event will invite the audience to consider how cooperation and the sharing of creativity and ideas enrich our intellectual lives.
