A Shared Body
August 23 – December 11
In 2016, members of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation initiated a grass roots protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline, infrastructure that would transport oil across the Midwest and endanger the reservation’s clean water source. Photographs, prints, paintings and graphic design elements from the protest spread around the world, and the project was officially abandoned in 2021. This exhibition explores the key roles artists have taken in contextualizing access to water as a human and civil right, from the Middle Passage to Flint, Michigan. Artists in this exhibition include Andrea Carlson, Jim Denomie, Heid E. Erdrich, Courtney M. Leonard, Cannupa Hanska Luger, Pope.L, Calida Garcia Rawles, and Sarah Sense.
Napoleon at the Movies
August 23 – October 30
Napoleon Bonaparte has been featured in more films than any other character in history. What is it about the rise and fall of this particular figure that filmmakers and audiences in the 20th century found so fascinating? Through nearly 50 posters advertising Napoleon movies to international audiences, this exhibition looks at a small segment of ephemera that speaks volumes about the formation of national identities during the tumultuous years of 1908-1989.

During quarantine, Linda Hall and Becki Rutta documented the impact of the pandemic on Tallahassee through a series of performances and interventions in local malls, parks, and other shared spaces. This exhibition includes masks, photos, and videos created in the last year.
