Socially Engaged Craft Collective Event

The Socially Engaged Craft Collective, The Museum of Fine Arts and The FSU Art Department are hosting an event for ‘Craft as a Social Practice’ on display until November 18.

5pm- Performances by Cheyenne Rudolph. KITSCHInventions is a satirical installation designed to reference a domestic environment as a set for the performance and demonstration of the products under the label. Frisky Whisk and Stop Ice are interactive performative objects whose subversive functions challenge collective gender assumptions, etiquette, and domestic control.
6pm- In ‘Finding Balance’, artist Forrest Sincoff Gard encourages participants to attempt to balance a broomstick in the palm of their hand. Forrest’s Interactive broom balancing game showcases hand-made porcelain brooms and allows users to experience a moment of equilibrium during a restorative moment in their busy day.
7pm-Erik Scollon is an artist, educator, and writer based in Oakland, CA. In his subversion of traditional ceramic techniques and approaches, he utilizes both sculptural and functional forms to investigate issues of taste, class, gender, and queerness. He is Associate Professor of Ceramics and Chair of the First Year CORE Studio Program at the California College of the Arts.
