January is the time for MoFA audiences to catch up with the projects and recent works of the talented art faculty of the College of Fine Arts. Diverse in vision, media and execution, the works exhibited in the Annual Faculty Exhibition demonstrate visual investigations that inform the studio practices of the Florida State University’s Department of Art. Many full-time and adjunct faculty will exhibit works in different media, confront traditional notions of art and expectations, and make contemporary points with humor and passion.
Do you ever wonder what is hidden behind the museum’s store room doors? MoFA’s permanent collection spaces will be under renovation during the spring semester, and guest curators from departments throughout the College of Fine Arts will be given the opportunity to arrange, rearrange, and change your viewpoint on some of the “biggest” works in our collection. Six iterations of “Stored” will fill the Lower Gallery from January 7 through March 31.
Scherezade Garcia is an interdisciplinary visual artist born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and based in New York. In her work she explores the history of colonization and issues of migration in public memory. She is a faculty member at the Parsons School of Design, and her work can be seen in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, El Museo del Barrio in New York, and the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo.
